Brianna, known creatively as The Visual Butterfleye, is a multimedia artist, visual storyteller, and teaching artist whose work lives at the intersection of culture, community, and transformation. Born in New York City and raised in Yonkers, her love for the arts began early. Raised by two musician parents, her childhood was filled with the sounds of Motown and late-'90s R&B/Neo-Soul, alongside endless hours of drawing, painting, and building intricate LEGO creations. While music wasn't the artistic path she ultimately chose, she eventually emerged as the visual artist of her family, discovering her own creative language through imagery, storytelling, and a deep curiosity about the world around her.
At 17 years old, Brianna received her first camera from her father and began photographing people, places, and everyday moments without fully knowing exactly what she was doing or where the journey would lead. Then, what started as simple curiosity quickly became purpose. After graduating high school, she attended Lehman College in the Bronx, where she would study Film & Television and later officially launched her career in media during her sophomore year through an internship at BronxNet Community Television (which also happened to be on Lehman's campus). There, she totally fell in love with the excitement of production (the lights, cameras, and the control rooms) but even more importantly, she truly connected to the community of color behind the scenes.
That same year, an unexpected moment during a family trip to Martha's Vineyard would quietly shape the future of her creative identity. While photographing an American Painted Lady butterfly, Brianna experienced a rare moment of stillness with both herself and the Painted Lady. While framing the image, it felt as though the butterfly paused alongside her, creating a connection she never forgot. What began as a single photograph soon blossomed into a lasting fascination with butterflies and the symbolism they carry: transformation, resilience, perspective, and the lifelong journey of becoming. Those ideas gradually became the foundation of both her personal life and her creative practice.
After graduating college and as her career continued to grow, Brianna collaborated with nonprofits, television networks, educational institutions, and independent Black and POC women-owned production companies, creating work rooted in representation, connection, and service. Along the way, many people came to know her as "The Camera Lady," since she was always on location or in the studio shooting something. But as her artistry expanded, she realized the name no longer reflected the depth of her vision. She wasn't simply just a camera woman, she understood that the vision she had for herself included building more community and expanding her creative and technical services.
In 2019, inspired by the butterfly's enduring message of transformation, Brianna embraced a new creative identity: The Visual Butterfleye. More than a name, it became a philosophy; one rooted in the belief that every person, every story, and every season of life holds beauty worth documenting. Today, her work spans photography, filmmaking, creative direction, and media education, all guided by the belief that compelling visuals begin long before the shutter is pressed. Whether she's creating portraits, shooting films, mentoring young creatives, or leading community-centered workshops, Brianna approaches every project with empathy, intention, and the hope that storytelling can inspire connection, healing, transformation and always remain accessible.
When she's not behind the camera, Brianna finds joy in life's quieter moments. She's an avid herbal tea enthusiast, a lifelong music lover with a playlist for every mood, and someone who treasures dancing, laughter, and quality time with the people she loves most. She believes those moments of softness are not separate from her work but they are quite literally what sustains it. They remind her to move through the world with curiosity, compassion, and the same sense of wonder that first inspired The Visual Butterfleye.
The Butterfleye's Philosophies
The Visual Butterfleye's philosophy is rooted in the belief that visual storytelling can transform, heal, connect, and empower communities, especially those whose stories deserve deeper care, visibility, and representation. She exists to create intentional visual experiences that honor people, preserve stories, inspire transformation, and strengthen community through art, media, and education.
Her core beliefs:
1. Community Comes Before Clout
A huge part of the Visual Butterfleye's identity is her investment in Black and brown communities, collaboration, mentorship, and accessible creativity. She believes meaningful relationships matter more than recognition. Whether through creative projects, arts education, or visual storytelling, she prioritizes people over popularity and impact over attention.
2. Transformation is Sacred
Transformation is more than change. It's truly a sacred unfolding. Every stage of becoming carries meaning, whether it is visible to the world or happening quietly beneath the surface. She always aims to honor the journeys, transitions, and moments that shape who we are, creating space for growth to be witnessed with care, intention and authenticity.
3. Softness and Humanity Matter
She believes there is strength in tenderness and beauty in authenticity. In a world that often moves so fast (and too fast sometimes), she creates with compassion, curiosity, and care. She honors the full humanity in the people she works with, embracing vulnerability, joy, complexity, and the essence that makes each story unique.

Butterflies live with remarkable purpose. Because their lifespans are often brief, their primary role is to contribute to the continuation of their species. Their existence is rooted in purpose, movement, and impact.
As a creative, Brianna is deeply inspired by this sense of mission. She is passionate about collaborating with individuals, organizations, and communities whose work is guided by intention, service, and a desire to create meaningful change. Like the butterfly, she believes that purpose gives direction to everything we create.

As a visual storyteller, Brianna finds a natural connection to this ability. Through the use of various camera lenses, she is able to approach each story from different angles, perspectives, and focal lengths. Whether documenting a community event, creating a portrait, or capturing a transformative moment, she uses her tools to translate vision into imagery that feels both authentic and imaginative.

Butterflies possess an extraordinary ability to navigate by tracking the position of the sun. Their internal sense of timing, combined with their awareness of light, helps guide them toward their destination.
For Brianna, this connection feels especially meaningful. In photography and filmmaking, understanding light is essential to the creative process. Before a camera is ever lifted, careful attention is paid to the movement of the sun, the quality of light, and how a story will be illuminated. Much like the butterfly, Brianna's work is guided by light—both literally through her visual practice and metaphorically through her commitment to purpose, direction, and intentional storytelling.
